To evoke a response.

Colour is so evocative. The redness of an apple, the greeness of a Granny Smith. The colours of these beautiful Chinese bowls bring to mind all the history of textiles and rainbows and ceramics throughout history. To capture these feelings in paint is a challenge. I once had a book of ancient colour plates with names like 'eau de Nile' which I loved to dream over. Derek Jarman wrote about colour in his book "Chroma".
